Sunsets are awesome from your Lanai. The condo is located one block from the Kona Village, where it's an easy 5 minute walk to your favorite shops or restaurants. Or you can drive 4 miles to one of the best snorkel beaches in Kona. If shopping, eating or the beaches are not on your itinerary, you can relax around the beautiful oceanfront swimming pool or spa, basking in the sun. And at night you'll be gazing at millions of stars! Many vacationers just relax on their private lanai, and listen to the sounds of the surf, watch the whales and dolphins and turtles that occasionally swim by, and watch the beautiful sunsets. This is a non smoking unit both inside and out.

Back to Kona after 25 years

We stayed at Kona Reef many times in the 80's. Returning after this long, we were surprised to find it much the same (in a good way). Being 25 years older, we tended to notice the fact that the elevators stop BETWEEN the floors, which was really only an issue on the first and last days (luggage) and following our first Costco run. A silly design quirk, but not really a big problem (yet).

Unit D33 had obviously been redecorated and was nicely equipped, including a lot of useful beach equipment in the deck box. The glassware was kind of "eclectic" so we bought four matching cocktail glasses and four matching wine glasses, which we cheerfully donated for future guests.

Our only real issue was the cost which, once we started researching accommodations for our next visit, we found to be definitely at the high end. Obviously, we expected to pay a premium for a great oceanfront setting, but when you stay for 6 weeks, that "daily rate" adds up. We've opted to reserve elsewhere next time just because of the expense, not because there was anything wrong with Kona Reef or our unit. We decided to give up the oceanfront to get a much larger unit at half the cost.

We must mention the OUTSTANDING service we got from Kona Coast Vacations. We had two "equipment malfunctions," an internet modem that quit working and a DVD player that had obviously seen better days and wouldn't play anything. In both cases, Kona Coast sent someone out immediately, both times on weekends. It took a couple of days to get a new modem from the cable company, but they brought out a brand-new Blue-Ray player within hours of our call. THAT is great customer service!

For those staying 2 weeks or less, or those with unlimited funds, Kona Reef is a great choice. If you are staying longer, you might want to consider looking for units on the mauka side of Alii Drive that rent by the month.

We had a great experience. Every kitchen item one could ask for was available. We loved the view. The place was clean. We enjoyed using the beach equipment (boogie boards etc.) We would stay here again.

This condo is a great value for the price. The pool, BBQ area, and the grounds around the condo are very clean, and maintained well. D-33 is on the 4th floor and oceanside. The breezes are better on the top floor, with more privacy and better views. You will get great pictures of the surf and the sunsets are spectacular. This particular unit was clean and stocked with about, everything you will need, with beach towels, bogie boards, coolers, beach chairs, mats, and good snorkeling equipment. It currently is in the process of a complete remodel, and we were satisfied with the unit before that. You will not be disappointed, and you can be sure there will be no surprises. If you are looking for something more fancy, you will be paying much more. Very close to everything in town, you really don't need a rental car unless you want to explore other parts of the island. Aloha!
