Welcome to paradise. Our recently acquired 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1161 sq. ft. condo is completely remodeled in 2014 and ready for you to enjoy.

The large 25’ lanai puts you incredibly close to the water. You’ll love the oceanfront dining and relaxing, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner while watching the dolphins, sea turtles and fish dance in the waves plus see the whales during season. The lanai is fully covered, with a Hunter ceiling fan for your comfort, and is your own private place to see the incredible Kona sunsets.

The sliding glass doors and screens in the living room slide back entirely into pockets, opening up the living room and kitchen to the lanai and oceanfront experience. The lanai overhangs the pool and you have an unobstructed view of the reef, bay, beautiful sunsets and sandy beach.

Hale Pohaku was designed by award winning Hawaii architect Vladimir Ossipoff, called the “master of modern Hawaiian architecture”. It shares no common walls with other units, allowing flow through ventilation from the floor-to-ceiling louvers in every room. His unique design incorporates Kamaaina (local) style. The cool ocean breezes bring in the fresh air and are complimented by Hunter ceiling fans in each room, even the kitchen and master bathroom. The complex feels very private with only 6 units sharing the oceanfront pool, paddle tennis court and covered parking. The pool was converted to light salt in 2014, eliminating the need for chlorine and feels much better on your suntanned skin.

Inside our condo, you’ll find beautiful new furniture, granite countertops, Koa cabinets and fresh, contemporary bathrooms. The furniture and king size beds in both the master bedroom and second bedroom are custom crafted by a local artist and features the Honu (turtle) carved in the wood. The unit is fully stocked with linens and towels, including beach towels, along with a selection of beach toys. The kitchen has top end appliances and everything you need to prepare meals featuring local produce from the nearby farmers markets. In the living room, you’ll find a new 46” Sony full HD TV, DVD and audio system.

Location, location, location! The location is unique with a small white sand beach just steps away and your own private seawall gate to get there. Beyond the beach, there is a nice size wading area surrounded by lava and a coral reef. You could spend hours here in the water exploring or on the sand sun bathing. If you have children, they will love it when the turtles come over to the shore to visit. They are very curious and amazing to watch up close. And you’ll find other great beaches and surf spots close by. Finally, the oceanfront pool has plenty of patio furniture, shaded section and a grassy area for sunbathing, plus its own bathroom and shower. These are a few of the many reasons Hawaiian royalty picked Kona as their home!

We are close enough to town to walk (about a mile and a half), with lots of scenery to see along the way. You can head to town in the morning to have breakfast and then walk it off on the way back to the condo, followed by a swim to cool off. You can also hop on the Kona-Keauhou trolley as a stop is only a block away and it runs from about 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The open air Alii Gardens Marketplace is about ¼ mile away, with local crafts, coffee and foods.

During the Kona Ironman in October, Hale Pohaku puts you right in the action as the triathletes train on Ali’i Drive. During the race, the athletes run south on Ali’i Drive, passing right by Hale Pohaku on their way to Keauhou. There they turn and head north again on Ali’i, passing Hale Pohaku a second time as they compete in the final leg of the Triathlon. Just set up your beach chair and cheer them on for the final leg of the Kona Ironman.

We hope that you enjoy our new oceanfront paradise as much as we do!

3 night minimum, 10 nights during Ironman and Christmas. This is a no pets, no smoking property. Hawaii Tax ID: W48684779-01

Beautiful!!! We arrived at the condo, dropped the luggage and went to the lanai! What a majestic view and then we saw whale spouts...off our lanai! Can't get any better than that! Would definitely stay here again. It was all and more than we expected.

Eight days in paradise

This was our second stay in this condo. Although we enjoyed our stay immensely we battled ants in the master bathroom throughout our stay. The exterminator was called who put out additional ant bait which only attracted more ants. Other than ants, we had a great stay. Whales, dolphins (both bottle nose and spinner) and turtles were spotted from the lani or shore at rear of condo.

Manager Response

Thank you for staying with us at Hale Pohaku. We appreciate your feedback and we are happy to report that the ant issue was temporary and has been resolved! Glad you enjoyed this wonderful ocean front lanai for enjoying the many ocean friends that frequent the Kona Coast coastline!

This unit has been updated with taste and comfort in mind. It is VERY well appointed and has everything you will need. The lanai is spacious and the furniture is comfortable. This is one of the very few properties (that we could see) that has a beach just below it with very few people using it. We felt like we had our own private beach! Easy access to the pool (which again felt like our own as no one was using it) and the beach. The property managers were friendly, helpful and efficient with any of our needs. The waves crash loudly and it does take time to adjust. Traffic noise is a pain but all properties on Alii Drive have the same problem. All in all, no complaints except......we missed BBQ'ing! Highly recommended

The Best of the Best

My husband and I spent the first two weeks of November 2014 at Hale Pohaku. I can't sufficiently describe the breathtaking view and sound of the waves crashing to the shore. The condo is exceptional - beautifully designed, furnished and comfortable. The owners have outfitted the unit with everything you will need for your vacation. With only six units in the entire building, you frequently have private use of the pool. The town of Kailua-Kona is only 2 miles away and it's wonderful to start your day with a morning walk.

Ali'i Drive can be a little noisy at times, but you soon grow used to it.
