The North Pole comes to the North Pacific this December with the 34th annual Kailua Kona Christmas Parade. Children and kids at hear will marvel as the streets of Kona transform into a winter wonderland complete with extravagant light displays, imaginative floats, and beautiful musical performances. The events begin at 4:30pm on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium in Kona, just off the Kuakini Highway at Kukailimoku Point. Fun for the entire family, from the kids to the kids at heart, this is one Christmas holiday spectacle you won’t want to miss during your visit to the scenic Kona side of Hawai‘i’s Big Island.
Christmas Magic at the Kona Christmas Parade
The traditional parade captures the holiday tradition of “The Magic of Christmas, Kona Style.” Elaborate floats decorated in their holiday finest, festooned with brilliant lights, and carrying your favorite holiday characters will make their way down Ali`i Drive to Coconut Grove Marketplace in central Kona in a procession of pageantry Kona hasn’t seen since…well, since the 33rd annual parade! Musical entries will be astride the floats and set up at stages along the way, meaning there is no bad seat in the house to watch the Kona Christmas Parade. Santa will be joined by his reindeer, ballerinas and the entire cast of The Nutcracker, Rudolph, and perhaps even the Abominable Snowman (we hear he is friendly).
This holiday season, don your best Christmas aloha gear and don’t forget your Santa hat; this magical parade promises to be a highlight of the year in sunny Kona town. Parking for the Kailua Kona Christmas Parade is available in lots throughout Kona, and the parade route follows the scenic shores of Kailua Bay with plenty of excellent vantage points. Free to the public.
