Overall, we loved staying at this house for my birthday celebration. The open kitchen is large and well-stocked for a rental (all the plates/glasses/mugs/pitchers/blenders/etc you need). The sofa is big enough for many people to lounge on. The pool is great (altho some tiles have fallen off). The lanai is *fantastic* for hanging out on—there's a living room-type set up on one side and a table and chairs on the other. Overall, the house could use some TLC but is mostly pretty well maintained. However, our party of five adult couples had some trouble: the twin rooms were not comfortable for adults. They had small single beds, one nightstand and one lamp—no other furniture—so they were depressing. In one of the twin rooms, both beds were broken (all the screws holding the frame together had come loose, causing the already-bouncy bed to swing violently when sitting down or rolling over). Because of these things, one of our couples had to go rent a hotel room nearby instead. We tried to work with the management company on the issues. They sent a handyman a couple of days later finally, who tightened the screws on one bed, but it's still floppy. Fine for kids, maybe, but not for adults. We received a message a couple of weeks before our trip that the air conditioning was no longer available at the house. We figured that'd be fine, since we were going in February. However, the downstairs rooms—even with windows and doors open and fans on—were stuffy. None of the bathrooms have fans, so showering makes the rooms hot and humid. Other items to note: the entry way from the gate lacks a landing, so you have to step over/around the stairs to the landing (it's awkward and would be difficult for anyone with limited mobility), the main indoor stairs have these heavy ridges on them that make them difficult to navigate, lack of AC, filthy fan in the broken twin bedroom, and a few too many creatures in the house (lots of cockroaches and rats). We tried taping the holes in the screens the rats had made to gain access and they just chewed new ones the next day—so if you're squeamish about critters, might not be the place for you. We tried to work with the management company regarding the broken beds and AC. The handyman did come on the third day and tighten screws (insufficient), but they didn’t bring the offered portable AC unit, and refused to consider a discount for our friends who had to leave, so they paid for two places for the week, which sucks.

Home was perfect for our trip. Kids and adults loved the pool. I was worried about it not being heated cause I don’t like cold water, but the pool temp was perfect! Close to shopping, activities and public beaches. Highly recommend!

Fabulous porch and living areas. We actually had two houses and this became our gathering spot - so very perfect! we were able to do a couple dinners with everyone. Also, very walkable to some gorgeous scenery and not far from everything we needed.
Wonderful vacation! The home was perfect for our family. Lot's of space for gathering, a great pool, centrally located and easy to walk to some great places for sunsets and hikes. Hope to come back soon!

This was the best rental we've ever done. Place was great, fully accommodated six adults and four grandkids with beds and baths for all. Excellent indoor and outdoor dining. The pool area was beautifully landscaped and very private. All-in-all, couldn't have had a better stay. Very quit and peaceful.

Great Family Home!

Our family of 8 had plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and open space to spread out. We enjoyed the pool every day and outdoor space was easily accessed and provided plenty of seating for our group. The mango tree provided fruit for every breakfast and was delicious! Even though there was no ac and we were staying in late July the many windows and ceiling fans and pool kept us cool. Just a suggestion...beach chairs were sparse and more would have been appreciated. We would recommend this great family home to everyone. The Owens Family!

Wonderful home!

Close to the bay, grocery store is less than a mile away with Hawaiian ice next door! Pool is amazing, very roomy, comfy beds. There is a market at the outrigger weds/fri 9-2 that is an easy 10 minute walk away. There is AC units, they are locked out, it is manageable but would sure be great to use it at night. Can’t say enough about this wonderful home!

Clean and spacious

Our party of 9 had a wonderful time. The house was clean and spacious. We spent several hours every day on the Lanai. The kitchen was well equipped and the pool was refreshing. Thanks to other reviewers and the listing, we knew that we wouldn't have AC. The good news is that we didn't need it since we were staying over in the winter. We made use of the beach supplies and were grateful they were available.

A beautiful house situated on a very private lot. The pool is large & amazing. The house comfortably accommodated our 3 families consisting of 6 adults, and 4 children ages 7-12. It is located within walking distance of the bay where several boating companies are located. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen is well supplied with cooking needs. This was our 1st visit to the Big Island, so we were unaware of the fact that many places are not air conditioned, including this house. If I had read more comments, I would have picked up on that. It was uncomfortably hot in the afternoon and evenings in spite of the ceiling fans and floor fans. We managed by spending time in the pool and going out to eat. Other than the heat, we very much enjoyed our stay! Mahalo!

Property was perfect for our family of 10. Plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen was well equiped and was nice to have an outdoor grill. Kids had a blast in the pool as the adults relaxed poolside, keeping an eye on them. We all enjoyed our time there.

This house was almost perfect for our family trip. The kitchen was well appointed for the "chefs" in our group. The bedroom and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable. The lanai and pool area were wonderful. With all that being said, the almost perfect title comes from the lack of air conditioning. There were plenty of fans, but during the day when we were not there to keep all the windows open, the heat was hard to dissipate for the evening. We understand the cost, but the accumulation of humidity and heat cannot be good for the gorgeous home and furnishings.

We were blown away the moment we walked in the door. House was spotless and impeccably maintained. The enormous great room leading to the lanai via a 20 ft. wide sliding door was impressive. The house's layout, furnishings, and decor were ideal. The kitchen had everything we needed to feed 10 comfortably. The backyard oasis was perfect. The listing pictures don't do it justice, and they are very impressive pictures! Pool water was ideal, probably low 80's and the large and private back yard had enough sun and shade to make everyone happy. I can't say enough good about this home, it was the icing on the cake for our family trip to Kona. Thank you!

Great, private location

WARNING: Next to the driveway, there is a wooden gate to unlatch to enter the fenced property that needs a caution sign. There is no landing on the other side, just steps down into the sunken front yard or awkward side steps to the lanai. Lights on the locked garage were not working so beware especially when entering the first time at night or taking out the trash to the far side of the garage in the dark. Family of 9, including 4 kids age 7 -11, had plenty of space & fun using the pool, pool/table tennis combo. Although our stay was in unusually wet 2/23, the house was very hot & humid in the afternoon/evenings so we slept with the windows open except for those who found the birds too loud. Many fans but they were not clean - clumps of dust on them. Would pay more for AC which would help keep the noise in after 9 pm which is requested by the house rules. Dining table large enough but not enough chairs for 9 or 10 people to eat together. Induction cooktop which was new to us & nearby instructions would be helpful for safety sake. Great, private location with a two block walk to a small beach where the kids were easily entertained. House rental a positive alternative to a high rise hotel. ______________________________________________ Response from Kona Coast Vacations: Mahalo for your feedback Rodney! More than Exceeded our Expectation

This property more than exceeded our expectations. It was so beautiful with the gardens in the backyard. We would sit on the lanai listening to the birds. You couldn't see the neighbors because of all the vegetation. The house was large and roomy for the nine of us. It was all modern and aesthetically beautiful. There was lots of things to help us enjoy our vacation - coolers, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, games. We didn't want to go home!

This house was beautiful and worked very well for our laid back Hawaiian family vacation. Overall, we would absolutely recommend. Just a couple notes: - Neighborhood is lovely but not very close to downtown Kona and other attractions - There is only one, small TV. It was fine but if you want to watch movies or tv as a group, it's not ideal All in though, the property was even nicer than expected! Thank you!!!

Great Venue for our Family Trip

Great venue for our family trip, there were 9 of us and ranged in age from 3 to 72. Plenty of room to spread out, only 2 semi complaints only 1 TV and 1 of the twin bed mattresses is pretty uncomfortable. The kitchen was every well stocked, and plenty of chairs and umbrellas to take to the beach along with a couple of small ice chest in the garage.

Wonderful Time, Suffocatatingly Hot

We had a wonderful time at Kahle Ohana. The bedroom and bath setup was perfect for 6 adults and 4 granddaughters as was the open kitchen, dining and living room area. The grounds were lovely, although there was a lot of plant debris around the pool of which some of it ended up in the pool. The gardener never showed up. Everyone enjoyed the pool, especially the granddaughters. We removed the pool vacuum, which was not on, as the hose/tube got in the way of the pool use. The location was ideal. It was just a 5 minute walk to the harbor for our first short snorkeling adventure. The garage was well stocked for beach adventures….coolers, umbrellas, chairs and boogie boards. Food and drug store shopping were a five minute drive away and walkable if not on a hot hot day. When small issues arose, Kona Vacations responded immediately with very pleasant staff. The only big negative part of the stay was the lack of air conditioning. We were absolutely miserable in the evenings. Perspiration dripped off of my face and hairline when just sitting very still. Mornings were pleasant as we left all windows open 24/7. But by late afternoon and evening there was no relief. The home was all locked up when we arrived with no fans running. It was like a sauna, suffocatingly so. Perhaps if a group is arriving back to back, you might consider letting some air in for their arrival. More box fans would help with air circulation. I hope the owners consider repairing the heat pumps so that the air conditioning option is back.

This is a very nice house in a convenient neighborhood. There were 10 of us, 7 adults and 3 children ages 5, 10 and 2. Plenty of room for us, and the pool was really wonderful. Also beautiful landscaping. Only "complaint" (although we knew this from other reviews when we rented) - without air conditioning, this house is very hot in the afternoon and evening. There are numerous fans but that is not enough at least in the summer when we were there. Normally sleeping was OK as the temp would lower by bed time, but it was not comfortable in the house from mid-afternoon to about 9:00 at night. House really needs to have A/C fixed. and available.

The house was great we loved the open concept. The pool was fabulous. The only problem was with having no air conditioning and a 9 pm noise curfew made things very unbearable. This house needs air conditioning on both floors so that you can come inside and shut the doors to keep noise in .

We chose Kahle Ohana as the location for our extended family gathering. The property was all that we hoped for. We really enjoy staying in Keahou. This home is on a quiet street, away from the hustle bustle, yet close to a grocery store and restaurants. The pool is a nice feature. The kitchen is well stocked and very functional. We appreciated that the TV is downstairs, not in the main living room/kitchen area. We twice found it necessary to contact the management company for small issues. They were very responsive and easy to work with. We would have no hesitation considering Kahle Ohana again in the future.

We stayed in this lovely home with 10 family members. Beautiful home, great location and wonderful extended spaces for us to gather as a big group. We were able to walk to the marina for our manta ray snorkel ( with Hawaii oceanic). Good location for town and great beaches north and south ( about 30 min drive). Property management company was great /easy to work with!

Beautiful house and pool, well maintained and located in a neighborhood. Perfect size for party of 9. We chose to add air conditioning for a fee. No beach access, but within a short drive to beach and shopping. Airport about 30 minutes away.

This rental experience was an all-around great experience! The location was central for our activities, the property managers proactively communicated, the house was clean and nicely furnished and the pool was a bonus! I would recommend it to anyone and would return in the future as well.

Spectacular luxury home

Kahle Ohana is a spectacular luxury home fully outfitted with everything we needed for an amazing family vacation. We had 8 people in our party and there was plenty of space for us all. Pool and grounds were exceptional. We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen was well laid out, spacious and well equipped. We will plan for a return trip as soon as we can.

The location of this house was just what we were looking for and there was plenty of room for our whole family. Every bedroom had plenty of space and no one felt as if they got ‘ the bad bedroom’ because there wasn’t one. The pool was huge. What it lacked in view it made up for in location.

My family stayed here during our Christmas vacation. The house accommodated the 10 of us very comfortably. It was very spacious, and we particularly loved the upper lanai and the sunny pool area! The location was great as well - a 3 minute walk to Keauhou Bay to watch sunsets, walking distance to the Sheraton, the golf course and Keauhou Shopping Centre which has everything you need from groceries to restaurants. We also found the area to be very central to excursions and beaches both north and south of us. The house was very clean and the grounds were well maintained. No AC on the main floor but we were able to keep it cool with fans and opening doors/windows. A couple of suggestions would be to have someone meet you at the house on the first day to run through everything, and let you know when garbage day is etc. Also for a house that sleeps 10, there should be enough plates and chairs at the dining room for 10. Had a great time and would definitely return to the house and stay in the same area!

Beautiful home everything was great except no AC in the main floor. That is where the master bedroom was and my elderly parents had that room. It was quite warm. Everything else was fantastic! Date of Stay: 8/1/17 to 8/6/17

My family was very happy with this rental, very clean and organize, we had a very nice stayed and we will rent it again in four years since we go to a different island every year but we definitely recommend it.

This is a beautiful home perfect for our group of multiple families. It is well equipped with comforts of home, including a washer and dryer-wonderful to have on site. We especially enjoyed the back yard, pool, and BBQ. The upper lanai was also a favorite hang out spot for games and visiting. From the upper lanai there is a slight view of Keauhou Bay, but the bay is only a short two block walk to enjoy it fully. Many excursions depart from this bay. Our group did stand up boarding at this bay, a perfect location for beginners.
