Kokua at Kona Bay Estates
I highly recommend this property
by Marsha
5/5
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, well-equipped, and maintained property. Everyone had their private space, but there was space to gather as a group as well. We could get a peek at the ocean from the house, and greatly enjoyed sunsets at the beach. I highly recommend this property.
Perfect Home
by Rick
5/5
This property was a perfect home for our family vacation to the island of Hawaii. The house had plenty of space for us with our 3 adult sons and daughter-in-law. With 4 bedrooms, we all had our own space and there was a lot of common space for us to get together. The pool was a hit, and the short walk to the beach was perfect for sunsets. The location was great to explore all the island has to offer.
Perfect For Our Group
by Linda
4/5
Your company did a great job of communicating and taking care of us, especially reaching out to us about the swim suit found by the cleaners after we had left. The house we rented was in a great location. Close to the beach and close to town yet fairly private and safe. The layout of the house was perfect for our group of 5 adults and 2 small children. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms! The backyard swimming pool was great, especially for the kids (aged 5&7) who are very good swimmers. They were able to improve their swimming skils using fins, masks and snorkels. The washer and dryer in the upstairs closet was very convenient! We loved having beach chairs and beach towels to use at the pool or beach! The air conditioning, although a bit loud , was much needed, as were the ceiling fans! The kitchen, although a wonderful size, needs updating! Many of the pots and pans have scratched teflon coatings which in older pans contained PFOA chemicals which are cancer causing. Also, the kitchen knives were not very sharp. there are lots of knife sets on the market that are very inexpensive and stay sharp forever! The filter for the refrigerator door water dispenser needed replacement too. Placematts were made of a woven reed-like material that was hard to clean. Something flat and easy to wipe or fabric that would be easy to launder would work a lot better! I hope this is helpful. We would possibly rent this house again but since there are 2 cooks in our group would appreciate a kitchen update! -------------------------------- Aloha, Thank you for sharing your stay with us at Kona Coast Vacations, we are so glad to hear your family enjoyed your stay at Kokua at Kona Bay Estates. We appreciate you providing feedback and suggestions to allow better experiences for future guests We apologize these items were missed. We will have the knives sharpened and replace the pots and pans and water filter. Mahalo (Thank you), Kona Coast Vacations
Having Dan sharpen knives and leave knife sharpener, change water filter and check on pots and pans and replace set if they are all scratched.

We loved staying in this home and it fit the seven of us (4 adults and three kids) perfectly. So centrally located, great cook’s kitchen, short walk to the beach and the Old Airport beach. Very quiet neighborhood and minutes from downtown Kailua-Kona. We look forward to renting thus home again. Mahalo!

Property was as expected. Well set up for a family of 4 plus 2 grandparents. Had everything we needed. Kids really enjoyed the pool. Great location - steps to the beach and close to the main downtown area of Kona.

Wow - this house is amazing. It was perfect for our group of 6. Super clean and well stocked. The pool was fantastic and location could not be beat. We could walk everywhere and it was safe with good sidewalks. The bonus keiki beach across the street was also awesome. The AC units were really nice to have. Will definitely be back!

The Perfect Family Location
by Samuel
5/5
I can't imagine a better location for a family visit: Ballfields and playground behind the house, and kid-safe beach in front of the house! All amenities are within a mile, and it's just a couple miles to Kona-Kailua for excursions. The house itself has plenty of rooms--4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths. The pool is clean and refreshing, and also kid-safe. The house comes with a welcome package of local snacks, pool towels, and beach toys. The kitchen is well equipped. The master bath has a large jetted tub that our three children (7, 5, and 3) just loved to use together. The only precaution is that the AC is wall units in the bedrooms. The living areas get pretty warm in the summer, and the AC in the rooms is noisy enough to disturb light sleepers. This was a great stay in a beautiful place. We would definitely stay here on a return visit!
We are sorry to hear that the AC disturbs some of the guest in the home. Please take into consideration that the AC are window units so it is a little louder than your normal central air units. On another note, it’s always an honor when a guest provides us with a 5-star review. Thank you for taking the time to recap your stay! We’re so happy to hear that you were able to relax and enjoy your time.
The location of this unit is ideal for families
by Samuel

The location of this unit is ideal for families. The Keiki beach is across the street, and an ideal place for small children to play in the tidepools. Behind the house are ballfields and a children's playground. About a half mile away are beaches by an old airport that even have a little surfing. The pool with the unit is ideal. While it is 8 feet in the deep end, children are never more than a few feet away from the side of the pool. Our children were 3, 5, and 7--beginner swimmers--and we could adequately supervise them all from poolside. The unit includes some pool noodles and kickboards, as well as a couple of beach chairs. Kona Bay Estates is perhaps a couple miles from the tourist strip of Kailua-Kone, so close proximity to activities. There are grocery stores and restaurants within a mile. Kona Bay Estates is a gated community, so quite secure. There is public foot traffic that goes through the complex to get to the beach. The unit itself is spacious. In addition to the three bedrooms, there is a den downstairs that has been converted into a bedroom with it's own bath. Essentially, this is a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath unit that a couple of families could easily share. With so many great features, there were only a couple of downsides. The air conditioning is accomplished by wall units in each bedroom. They are noisy, and just barely up to the job. The living areas are not cooled, so a little uncomfortable when we visited in the summer. The decor is quite dated and the kitchen appliances old. The unit has two washer/driers which are great for families. The master suite included a jacuzzi tub, which are grandchildren loved to use. The hospitality of Kona Coast Vacations was outstanding. David was superb in his contacts and even interrupted a conference to immediately book a snorkel tour for us with Body Glove. We had one repair issue that was addressed immediately.

We loved our stay. The house was a perfect fit for our family. The beach was amazing!! The water was clear and clam, perfect for snorkeling.
house was perfect
by Cliff
5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kokua at Kona Bay Estates. The house was perfect for our family and in a very nice location. Close enough to town to be able to walk, but not to close to where it was quite at night and in the morning enjoying a cup of coffee on the lane. Having the beach so close was a surprise but definitely made for an easy walk to go down and enjoy the ocean/tidal pools, as well as watching the tide roll in crashing on the lava.
Great location close to the beach.

This property was well located because of easy access to the beach and within walking distance of Alii Drive.
clean and well prepared
by Raymond
5/5
Overall, the home and the vacation totally met our expectation. The home was clean and well prepared with the basic amenities to get us started. That was a big plus as we arrived extremely late in the evening. The house accommodated our group of 7 (6 adults + 1 toddler) comfortably well. This was our first experience booking a full rental home and pre-arrival information to get there was great.
Convenient Location, Amazing Vacation

5/5
The property is ideally located for a family vacation and set up extremely well. Clean, very comfortable with 4 bedrooms, and a lovely kitchen / living room / gathering area that opens up to the patio / lanai with the pool The beach across the street with its huge tidal pool was ideal for families with children. My daughter and her husband live in NZ, so for us Hawaii is halfway between NZ and Vancouver. We'd love to return again.
Highly recommend!

Kiwi Getaway

4/5
We were a family of parents, children & 4 small granddaughters. The home was the perfect size & location, the 3rd bathroom a bonus as was the spacious rooms & overall layout. The home was presented very clean thank you. We as a family prefer to self cater most of our meals & while the kitchen was spacious, the crockery, cutlery, glassware (and lack of), utensils etc were either too small, chipped, cracked or not sufficient for a med sized family group. The total lack of baking dishes & trays, gasmatch for bbq etc was frustrating. The non working dishwasher should have been checked & replaced prior to our arrival. A small onsite pool was nice but was made even more so by the constant presence of the creepy crawly. It does not filter all the plastic & foam particles out of the water from the old foam pool noodles. We saw this in the water quite clearly with our swim goggles. There were only 2 rather old Sun loungers for us 8 to “share” & sadly the fabric on one split the first time one of the kids sat on it. The aircon units while functioning were exceedingly noisy, the upstairs master bedroom dripped its water straight down over the roof as no gutter then dropped straight onto us sitting below at the outdoor table. Downstairs lounge too hot & needs something more than a stand fan. Other than these small (but annoying) things, the location & house itself was wonderful, it just needs some minor maintenance, work needed on insect screens so they open & lock at night.
Home was Beautiful

We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the home as we were in town for the Queen Liliuokalani Race and we explored a lot. There were a lot of spider webs on the property, home was beautiful, great location. No option to cover some of the windows which is strange in our culture. Overall a nice place. All toiletries were provided, as well as dish soaps, hand soaps, paper towels etc.
What A Memorable Trip!
by Anna
5/5
This was our first time to Kona and what a memorable trip! The villa was a delight and plenty large for our family of 7. The pool was a great way for the kiddos to play once worn out from day adventuring and the short stroll to the majestic ocean soul soothing for myself and my husband. The AC in each room was ideal and making sleeping so much easier! We loved all of the stay and look forward to visiting again.
Vacation Provided Lasting Memories
by Vanessa
5/5
We had the most amazing time staying in this home during our 9 day vacation. We couldn't have asked for a better location. We lived on the island for many years and typically vacation in Waikoloa, but we thought we'd take a chance staying in Kona this time around. The A/C worked perfectly in all the rooms, there was ample space for our family of 5 (2 parents and 3 teens), the house was clean and spacious. The kitchen was fully equipped for family meals. We could easily walk to Ali'i drive for shopping and sightseeing. The Keiki beach was steps from the front door. We spent early mornings and sunset here. It's a perfect beach for small children but it kept our older children busy with snorkeling and cooling off. We even spotted a Honu on our first day there. We hope to have the opportunity to stay at this home in the future. Thank you Kona Coast Vacations, this vacation provided lasting memories for our family.

Gorgeous house, loved the pool, great location to drive 3 min to downtown Kona or walk 10 min, no complaints except for having to leave! David with Kona concierge was awesome helping arrange scuba diving, luau, surfing lessons. Overall consensus is the best family vacation ever! (5 kiddos ranging in age from 11 to 22)

We were a family of 6 and stayed at a home in Kona Bay Estates. It is a lovely gated, small neighborhood very close to all the happenings in Kailua. It it tucked away along the coast and is very tranquil. The home was the perfect size for us, very clean, tidy and well stocked with basic necessities (which I didn't expect and fully appreciated) and well maintained yard. We had a couple of maintenance needs and the office was attentive and very pleasant. Grateful for the air conditioners in the bedrooms as it does get quite warm and humid. We were one row back from being on the ocean and it was clear homes on the ocean got a wonderful steady breeze (might consider that next time!). Only thing holding me back from awarding 5 stars was the near impossibility of getting hot water in the master shower, some needed upgrades on the kitchen sink/faucet area and no fun toys for the pool.
Amazing Home!

An amazing home in an amazing community close to the beach! Really, it couldn't have been better! The gated community felt safe (even during Covid) and private and yet was really close to the restaurants we wanted to see, the snorkeling, the luau, and the beaches!!

5/5
We stayed at this home for a week in late March/early April 2021. It was perfect for our little family reunion with 5 adults and 3 children. The location of the property is great -- small, gated community. The guys that work the gatehouse and oversee things are super nice. Our family went for regular walks and didn't have to worry about traffic since the kiddos had their scooters and bikes. The Keiki ponds and beach are a little walk from the house. We had a couple of evening picnics and climbed the lava to watch the sunset. It's easy to get stuff back & forth from the home to the Keiki ponds because it's so close. You can easily walk 10-15 minutes to the old airport site which is where you can watch surfers but it's really not a swimming beach. Across the "runway" is a wonderful botanic garden with a path that winds around for a lovely walk. You'll probably see mongoose and feral cats. The house is laid out nicely with 3 bedrooms upstairs. The master is en-suite and the other two have a Jack and Jill bathroom. There is a room on the first floor, past the dining room, that has a bed, sofa bed and a full bath. We discovered pocket doors for that room about halfway through our stay, so it can close for complete privacy. Each bedroom has a window ac unit but the rest of the home is not air conditioned. It wasn't an issue for us this time of year but I know it gets hot in the summer so people probably open up all of the sliding glass doors for cross breezes. There are a lot of sliding glass doors with screen slides. The home also has ceiling fans in every room. The living room is comfortable. We streamed shows for the grandkids and I was told by our kids that the internet service wasn't great at times but the adults didn't really notice. Probably the grandkids noticed when their shows were buffering. Our kids mentioned it would be nice to have a sound bar on the tv because the tv is in a cabinet and the sound is muffled. Not a big deal for us since we weren't there to watch tv. The kitchen is large enough for a couple of cooks and it is somewhat equipped but we felt they could use a few additions -- better utensils and outdoor plates and bowls would be great. We ate outside for all of our meals at their table for 6 and had to bring a couple of dining room chairs out to use, which meant we had to be really careful and mindful for those specific chairs. Not a big deal. The pool was great for us. It's not big but it is big enough and it has a deep end. The stairs in the pool are steep and there is a big drop off from the last step into the pool so for little ones, make sure you check it out first and the kids are prepared, especially if they are newer swimmers or use floaties. The pool had the auto cleaner in it the entire time, roaming around the bottom and sides, but it wasn't a problem as it seemed to stay in the deep end most of the time and the kids were on the other side of the pool. The pool stayed clean and refreshing the entire time. There are 3 lounge chairs by the pool. I contacted Kona Coast once to let them know about a few minor things and they dispatched someone immediately to address one of them (the other things didn't need to be addressed during our stay). This is the second time and second home we've rented from Kona Coast Vacations. They run an excellent business and their properties are great. We will definitely rent from them again. Mahalo!!

Very stylish and well appointed house - perfect for large groups and lots of amenities to support (glassware, towels, pots, platters etc.) so great for entertaining and having bbqs. Easy drive from the airport and into town. You could even walk into town if you're up for it, just a bit far to do all the time but we did a few times. Little beach cove was lovely for morning and evening swims. Aircon in all the bedrooms just not the living area (FYI only) great size pool as well. Recommend!

Thank you to everyone that we dealt with in Hawaii to have this home and our trip turn out perfect!!! Mahalo - Mahalo...

We enjoyed our stay at Kailua Kona very much. We found everything we needed was provided. Home was very clean and we appreciated the more than adequate provision of linen.

Ohana set-up so you can walk in and walk out with nothing more than a bathing suit, sarong, costco card and your friends. Super friendly and welcoming. Everything explained in a book when needed. Worth every penny. We love you guys. All the little touches are amazing. Love the stereo set-up for each area. Don't get me started on the beach. Aloha. We will see you again.

We had an excellent vacation. The property was fantastic and the location was as expected. I enjoyed morning walks at the Old Airport. What a true gem for the area. The family enjoyed all the tourist stuff. My kids snorkeled with manta rays and dolphins. Visited Mauna Kea and Kilauea and the black sand beach. Thank you so much. Mahalo

Was a great way to share a trip with my daughters and their family. Beautiful, spacious rooms that accommodated all 10 of us comfortably. Would love to rent again if I can get us all together again!!! My grandsons loved the ocean being only a few hundred feet away and that the lava formation allowed a great lagoon for a nice snorkle learning area and sandy beach without wave actions. They then were not the least intimidate to snorkle at Hapuna, Snorkle Beach, Two Step, or the other 3 smaller beaches we also enjoyed.
Wonderful location!

Wonderful property in a great location. Kids beach is directly across the street which was wonderful for the group that we had (9 people, 2 kids included). Pool was smaller than we thought by the photos but it was perfect for our needs. TV's weren't working in a couple of rooms due to upgrades and other issues but the facility was very responsive and willing to work quickly to get them working. Right behind the old airport and recreational facility, perfect for walks. Incredibly spacious, den with the queen bed and pull out sofa is really a bedroom in itself. Very bright home, curtains are not blackout so prepare to wake up early with the sun, recommend to bring sleep masks if you need to sleep in the darkness.
Great for a large family or group of friends

The house is large, spread out with a big well stocked kitchen. The pool was much smaller in person than it looked in the photos. But it was comfortable and it ended up working just fine for our group. Location to the beach was good, walking from the driveway to the beach in a couple of minutes. Location to great restaurants, Kona Brewery, shopping was all very close. The house was clean, big lanai for entertaining and well equipped in a gated community. It is a bit dated and a few things have seen more than normal wear and tear but with our large group it worked well. One draw back is the large ball field on the other side of the pool fence so it can get loud in the evenings and weekends. The management group (Kona Vacations) was excellent! They deserve a 10 on the rating scale! They answered so many questions both by email and by phone. I got to talk to a helpful person each time I called. I never had to leave a voicemail and wait for a call back. The person that answered the phone always figured out and fixed any issues that I had. And ten days after leaving the rental I realized that I had left two important things behind. The owner of the company personally went to the house to find the items and they were kind enough to overnight them to us. They were pleasant and helpful.
Family of 7 adults stay 1 week @ Kokua at Kona Bay Estates

This home was lovely, well-maintained, and had plenty of room for 7 adults. It's centrally located in a quiet neighborhood (except for the renovation construction going on across the street). It's a very short walk to the sand beach alcove/lave rock formations/beautiful sunsets in this gated community. The weather was pleasant enough that we didn't use the a/c, although it was humid, as can be expected. There was a problem when we first arrived with a moldy coffee filter basket & dirty appliances, dishes, but the rental company was very accommodating, and quickly made an adjustment for us. We would highly recommend this home and the rental company. We will be back again, time permitting!
Lovely house, great location for Ironman 2017

Great house in a lovely gated community, neighbors are friendly and kona bay drive is kept to a high standard. The house itself has everything you could ask for even down to the snorkeling equipment. It's clean well stocked and quiet, a little bit of paradise within easy walking distance of Kailua Bay (about 10-15 minutes walk). For us the only down side was the garden could be assessed from the playing fields behind, which kind of defeated the gated access scenario, but none the less it was great to watch the American football training that was held there. We stayed for ironman world championships as my husband was taking part and the area had lots of lovely places to eat out if you want a break from cooking. A car is a must if you want to see the island and give the night mantaray a go, and the dolfin swim to. Would we stay again? Yes definitely but would like to see the garden fenced, then I think you would have piece of mind that's it's really only accessible via the main gate which has guards on at all times. Hopefully we will be back in the next couple of years for the same event, thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Entire staff was very responsive. Beach/lagoon was less than a minute walk. Water was very warm (in the summer), saw many types of fishes in the shallow lagoon.

A lovely house that suited our needs perfectly. The only thing is there isn't central air - which for us wasn't an issue - but a surprise to my husband. :)

But for the dishwasher not working and limited lanai area, the place is great. Very spacious. Close to the beach. Walking distance to town. 24 hr security with access gate to the community. The activities at the rec center behind the house can be load but it didn't bother us.

The house was nice and the location was great. However one bedroom didn't have air conditioning which made sleeping in the heat difficult. The other 3 bedrooms were comfortable to sleep and hang out in.
