Kailua-Kona is just six beautiful miles away from our Kahaluʻu beach rentals, with tons of things for you to explore. Then, once you get to the downtown pier area, you’ll want to spend an afternoon strolling the souvenir shops, enjoying ice cream cones on the seawall, and watching the outrigger canoes paddle out for late-afternoon practice. You might want to hop in for a swim at the starting point of the world-famous Ironman Triathlon! Kailua Pier is also an awesome spot to get on a romantic dinner cruise or parasailing adventure boat.
The beach villas at Kahalu’u is also home to some of the island’s most significant historic sites, including the grounds of the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. This was once the home of the king, and the history of the area is well-told through Herb Kane’s famous paintings that adorn the lobby today. You’ll also find Huliheʻe Palace, once a summer home of royalty, and Mokuʻaikaua Church, the oldest Christian church in Hawaiʻi.
Stay in Luxury with Kahaluʻu Bay Villas
With all these adventures nearby our Kahaluʻu beach rentals, you might not feel like renting a car at all. But if you do, you’ll have a great time exploring all that the Kona Coast has to offer. Cruise south into Kona’s coffee belt and visit a few of the fragrant farms to taste their freshest brews. If you go all the way south, you’ll end up at Ka Lae, also known as South Point, which is the southernmost tip of the island (and of the United States). This fascinating windswept landscape was the first landing site of the ancient Polynesian voyagers who became the Hawaiian people, and you can still see some of their canoe moorings here today. You’ll be amazed by the steep cliffs dropping off into the deep blue ocean, as well as by the antics of local boys who dive off the cliff. Please don’t be tempted to try it yourself, as the currents here are very strong (and there are some very big fish down there!). These Kona vacation rentals are some of the best in the area!
If you head north instead, you’ll pass by many great beach areas, including Kua Bay, and, further north, the gorgeous Hāpuna Beach, the longest stretch of white sand on this young island. Golf lovers will want to play around at one of the many world-class courses to be found along the Kohala Coast, including at the Waikoloa Beach Resort and Mauna Lani. Continuing all the way to the north tip of the island, visit the incredible lookout at Pololū, and see the rugged beauty of this remote area. You’ll find some great art galleries and restaurants in the cute towns here, and plenty of whale-watching in season along the coast.
