While you may wish to wear reef shoes to protect your toes while swimming, do not walk on the reef as it damages the coral. Please also remember to use sunscreen that does not contain oxybenzone, as this chemical also can kill coral.

Huliheʻe Palace, once the home of Hawaiʻi’s royalty, is just adjacent to the Kailua-Kona pier. Across the street is Mokuʻaikaua Church, the oldest Christian church in Hawaiʻi.
