Mauna Lani – Heavenly Mountain
You’ll be enjoying the ocean view most of the time, but don’t forget to turn around and gaze at the mountains, too. On clear days, there are gorgeous views of Mauna Kea and the slopes of Kohala from this lovely spot. Mauna Lani Resort condos are a great spot for walking or biking around; up against the ocean, you’ll find many historic traditional fish ponds with coconut trees nestled among the brackish water. Enjoy one of the best snorkel spots on the island at the private Mauna Lani beach club, as well as rentals of paddleboards and kayaks. And of course, don’t forget the golf!
It’s not only heavenly for the scenery, but also for the convenience. There’s a grocery store just around the corner, and restaurants as well. More of both are available a short drive away at Waikoloa Beach Resort. Another short drive takes you to Hāpuna Beach, the longest stretch of white sand on the island. You really could not be in a better location for all the sand, sun, golf, and pleasure you can imagine!
Day Trips – Where to Begin?
Why not start with a morning at Puʻukoholā Heiau, a fascinating historical site. It’s the temple that was commissioned by Kamehameha when he embarked on his quest of uniting the islands under one rule. The structure was built bypassing rocks by hand in a human chain from Pololū Valley, some 20 miles away. Admission to this National Historical Site is free; it’s recommended to visit early in the day, as it can get extremely hot here. Nearby you’ll find Spencer Beach Park, Kawaihae Harbor, and a couple of great restaurants if you’re hungry for lunch.
Head further north in the afternoon, and explore the tiny, artsy towns of North Kohala. Visit the original Kamehameha statue (which was lost at sea, and later recovered), and the beautiful overlook of Pololū. And that’s just one day of adventures! Whether you spend your vacation exploring the entire island or lounging by the pool, the choice is yours. Get planning and check out the Mauana Lani condos for rent!
